San Pedro Acupuncture Health Center ServicesMEDICAL SCREENING
Every initial office visit will include a detailed health history intake, blood pressure reading and vitals. Your condition will be evaluated to detect a need for additional medical attention.

TRADITIONAL MEDICINE EVALUATION
In Traditional Medicine, disease is categorized by symptoms and patterns rather than by an organisms or chemical processes. To diagnose your pattern, you will be asked about your sleep, energy, appetite, thirst, and elimination. Your tongue and pulse will also be examined. Since your body is dynamic and your pattern can change and progress quickly, your pattern will be evaluated each time you visit.

ACUPUNCTURE
There are hundreds of acupuncture points on your body, but don’t worry–an average treatment involves only 5-20 points that are best for you! Your point prescription will be catered to your particular pattern and body type to treat both your symptoms and the underlying causes.

ELECTRICAL ACUPUNCTURE
Electrical Acupuncture, often called “E-Stim,” involves applying a very mild electric current to selected acupuncture needles. This mode of treatment is especially effective for stubborn muscle pain and neurological conditions.

AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE
Auricular means ear. Just like the foot is a micro-system for the whole body in reflexology, the ear can also serve as a micro-system for the whole body. Auricular Acupuncture can assist with most of the same conditions as Acupuncture and can be especially helpful with smoking cessation, weight loss, drug and alcohol detoxification, pain control, stress reduction, and lactation support. It can be done with small needles or with “ear seeds.” Ear seeds are tiny black seeds from the Vaccaria plant. They are attached to adhesive tape and placed on the desired location on the ear.

INFRARED THERAPY
Infrared therapy is frequently applied during acupuncture treatments. Infrared therapy is effective when deep heating of body tissue is desired. Beneficial effects include decreased joint stiffness, increased vasodilatation, muscle spasm relief and reduced pain from ligament sprains and strains. It works by increasing the local circulation of blood, lymph and the activity of the nervous system. It also makes for a nice warm, cozy, and relaxing treatment.

CUPPING/GUA SHA
Cupping and Gua Sha are two types of Chinese bodywork techniques that initiate a physiological healing change by releasing toxins, activating the lymphatic system, and improving circulation. These techniques are safe, effective, and cupping is the best deep tissue massage available.

HERBAL MEDICINE
Herbal Medicine San PedroIf you are interested in taking herbs, a Chinese herbal formula will be prescribed specifically to meet your needs. Formulas are available as tablets, capsules, powders, tinctures, and raw herbs. Tablets and capsules tend to be the most economical and convenient. Powders and tinctures can be ordered upon request. Raw herbal formulas can be special ordered for you to cook yourself at home–the traditional way.

NUTRITIONAL CONSULT & PLANNING
Nutritional plans are customized to each individual’s presenting pattern. A Traditional Chinese Nutrition approach combined with modern nutritional concepts will be utilized for optimal results.
